Consult the following table to determine which teaching assistant is yours. Special Note for labs 013 and 015: note that your labs are scheduled to meet at the same time in the same room; one of these labs will probably be moved.

  CIS105 Course Policies,

Fall 2003, Sections 010,011,012,013,014,015,016,017,018,019,020,021

In general, Chapter 0 of your lab manual serves as the syllabus for the course, and is the authoritative syllabus, EXCEPT as modified by the following.

  1. The table in Section 0.7 of the lab manual does not apply for grading of Dr. Conrad's sections. Instead, the following grade calculations apply:
  2. Midterm exam 1

    15%

    Midterm exam 2

    15%

    Final exam

    20%

    Labs/Homeworks/Quizzes

    20%

    Programming Assignments

    30%

The remainder of section 0.7, starting with the word "However", is still in effect for this class.

  3. Section 0.8.2 states that homework assignments will be handed out with the lab material. This may sometimes be the case, however the instructor may also hand out some homework assignments in lecture. Due dates for these homeworks may vary according to the assignment.
  4. The lab manual does not mention quizzes. However, both pre-announced and unannounced quizzes may be given at any time. Quizzes will be counted as part of your Lab/Homework/Quizzes grade. Missed quizzes due to unexcused absences will be counted as a zero. For excused absences, the instructor will simply double count the quiz score following or preceeding the missed quiz, whichever is closest in date to the missed quiz.
  5. Section 0.8.5 covers late submission of assignments. Dr. Conrad's philosophy is the same as that in the lab manual, however, a simpler calculation will apply to late work:
  6.

    On time

    no deduction

    Up to one week late

    10% deduction

    More than one week late

no credit for assignment; recorded as zero

No extra credit available for late submissions

Also, in Section 0.8.5, at the top of page 18, there are instructions about submitting assignments. but you should ignore this paragraph completely. Unless otherwise announced, assignments will be submitted electronically via WebCT, so submission times are timestamped by the system.

  7. Section 0.9 covers exams. The lab manual states that exams are closed book; however I allow one sheet of notes to be brought into your exam. This should be one 8.5x11 sheet of paper only, you must write your name on it, and you must turn it in with your exam. You may not use any notes whatsoever for quizzes.
  8. If you have a disability that requires special accommodation, please contact me by email (conrad@acm.org, or pconrad@udel.edu) or by phone (831-8622) within the first week of classes.

  9. Information in the syllabus is subject to change as the instructor sees fit, or as required by Departmental, College, or University policy, provided that reasonable notice is given to the class.
  10. Please contact me by email, phone or during my office hours if you would like to discuss any aspect of the course; I welcome the opportunity to be of assistance.
