Rebecca J. Sheppard is Associate Director of the Center for Historic Architecture and Design, where she has worked since 1985. She is also an Assistant Professor in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. She holds an M.A. in History from the University of Delaware, where she is currently completing a Ph.D. in American Civilization.
She teaches two courses related to the development of professional skills and methodologies in the field of historic preservation, as well as advising masters students and directing theses in that area of concentration. Her areas of research interest include historic preservation planning, the history and reconstruction of rural landscapes and the built environment, landscape preservation, and particularly the development of new technologies such as GIS to support research and practical applications in the field of preservation.
As Associate Director of CHAD, she is responsible for much of the center administration and development of student funding, and directly supervises most of the graduate research assistants working on funded projects in the Center. She has co-authored over 50 publications, including The Delaware Historic Preservation Plan.
