In class I will give you a replicating strand of DNA
1.You will be asked to finish labelling the strand of replicating DNA as follows:
a. for a, b, and c indicate 3' or 5'
b. draw in the leading and lagging strands
c. indicate their direction
of synthesis and their 3' and 5' ends
This problem you can work on right away and we will go over it in class. If you feel you need more practice I will give you more problems.
2. Given: the following stand of DNA:
T A C C C T A C G A G G C T T
a. Indicate the peptide chain that results from transcription and translation of this strand.
b. Assume a single base change at position #9 (G --> T).
1. Is this a transversion or a transition?
2. Indicate the protein that results from transcription and translation of this mutated DNA.What type of mutation ultimately occurs as a result of this change in the DNA?
