Major Requirements (30 Credits if Option A; 33 Credits if Option B)

I. East Asian Languages
Option A:  3 credit hours at the 200-level or above in Chinese or Japanese (incl. CHIN200,CHIN205 or CHIN206; JAPN200, JAPN 205 or JAPN 206).
OR
Option B:  Joint Chinese/Japanese Concentration:  Six credit hours (three credit hours, each, of Chinese and Japanese) at the 200-level or above

II. Required General Courses on East Asia (15 credits)

HIST137 East Asian Civilization: China (3 credits)

The 9 credits must draw from AT LEAST TWO departments, selected through prior consultation with the student's advisor.  Any cross-listed courses will be identified as being from the instructor's home department, e.g., HIST/WOMS 3XX, if taught by a History professor is counted as a History course.

For approval of independent studies and special problems, and for course substitutions in all the East Asian Studies degree programs, contact the program director before registering for them.


HONORS B.A. IN ASIAN STUDIES 
Students in this program must complete: 
1. All requirements for the B.A. in Asian Studies. 
2. All the University's requirements for the Honors Degree.  The Honors credits in the major shall come from at least two different participating departments, and at least two courses at the 300 level or above. 
3. The cumulative grade point average for all courses in major must be at least 3.400. 
4. For Honors Degree with Distinction: an additional 6 credits of  Thesis (UNIV401/402). 

Substitutions for the courses in all the East Asian Studies degree programs may be made with the
permission of the East Asian Studies Committee.  Independent Studies courses, Special Problems courses and Temporary /Experimental courses may also count towards these degrees with the Committee’s approval.  Requests for course substitutions or approvals should be addressed to the Director of East Asian Studies.  The course list will be updated from time to time.
Minimum of C- is required in all courses.
