The East Asian Studies Program offers a B.A. and a B.A. Honors, a Minor with Language, and a Minor without Language. Student may concentrate on China, Japan or Southeast Asia. The B.A. and the B.A. with Honors in East Asian Studies prepare undergraduate students as East Asian Studies specialists. They provide students with training in the history, political institutions, culture and the language of a particular East Asian country (e.g., China or Japan) in a general East Asian context. Students will acquire a unique cultural perspective of the target country, combining several disciplines into a sharply defined major. The knowledge and linguistic skills acquired will prepare the student for further studies at the graduate level, or a career in either the public or the private sector, such as foreign service or international commerce, banking and organizations. Students are encouraged to participate in study abroad programs. Currently there are one summer program in Kobe, Japan, and one winter program in China (Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an). Our outreach activities include: A semester-long workshop for State of Delaware teachers (K-12), an occasional semester-long lecture course at the Center for Lifelong Learning for senior citizens in the Wilmington, DE area. EA program also sponsors an East Asian Studies Award at the Delaware History Day event.
