East Asian Studies

-About East Asian Studies

The East Asian Studies Program offers students an interdisciplinary major that draws on 11 different departments, across three different colleges.   An Honors option is also available.   Students may also choose to minor in East Asian Studies.

The BA program in East Asian Studies prepares undergraduate students to be East Asian studies specialists. It accordingly provides students with training in the languages, histories, political institutions, cultures, and international relations of East and Southeast Asia.  The program's integration of different disciplines, methods, and prisms prepares students with the skills and knowledge critical to surviving in an increasingly connected world and global marketplace.  East Asian Studies majors and minors have gone on to pursue rigorous programs of research at UD and beyond, graduate-level studies in specific East Asian countries, as well as rewarding careers in a variety of areas, including business, teaching, law, and government.

Students in the East Asian Studies program also frequently find that their experience is enriched by combining East Asian studies with an additional major or minor in such departments as art history, economics, history, international relations, music, philosophy, and political science.

Study abroad is strongly recommended for students in this program.   The East Asian Studies program has regularly led a Winter Session study abroad program to China and Summer Session program in Kobe, Japan.
