The Academy of Newark continued to operate after Delaware College was chartered in 1834. It now served as the preparatory department for the college, training students in Languages (Classical and Modern), Mathematics, Vocal and Instrumental Music and the Sciences. Eighty-two students were enrolled in the Academy during the year ending September 27, 1843, led by four instructors and one professor from Delaware College.
