The University of Delaware has never been a one-sport school. Baseball was the first team sport played by Delaware College in the 1870s. Basketball became an important part of collegiate sports in the 20th century. Students participated in over 20 intercollegiate sports over the past century, as well as on numerous intramural teams. From ice hockey to field hockey, tennis to track, for many Blue Hens, athletics were a core part of their campus experience.
