| Topic: | Survey Polling in a Presidential Election Year |
Abstract:
In this presidential election year, there seems to be an explosion of polling beyond anything seen in the past. New methods of "sampling" public opinion have arisen and the media has latched onto anything and everything polls report often failing to ask even the most basic methodological questions.
This presentation will address at least some of these issues as seen by those of us who are engaged in survey research of all types year round. To add a local flavor, the current data on the 2000 election collected by the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research ("the UD poll") will be discussed. For this audience, even the dreaded issue of response rates will be addressed.
