Dinner Meeting: May 2000

Speaker: Clifford W. Sloyer
Professor of Mathematical Sciences
University of Delaware

Topic: Statistics in Standards-Based Curricula

Abstract:

In 1989 the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics proposed a set of Standards for the K-12 curriculum in mathematics. What topics in Statistics are included in those Standards? Based on support from the National Science Foundation, several sets of materials have been developed which are based on those Standards. With Statistics, have the curriculum materials met the goals set forth in the Standards for grades 9-12? What can we expect high school graduates to know about Statistics?
