GOAL-SETTING

Session Goals

To outline the elements needed to create an effective long-range goal.

Naming your goal is just the first step. To maximize your chances for success, you need to think it through.

To help you identify short-term goals toward achieving your long-range goal.

By breaking down your long-range goal into smaller chunks, you can more easily manage your time to address these tasks—this will help you keep your motivation strong and keep procrastination down.

To help you identify resources in support of these goals.

Building up a support network and learning where outside resources are available on and off campus will make it much easier for you to reach your goals.

To help you identify potential obstacles to achieving these goals and identify resources to overcome these obstacles.

Taking the time to identify possible obstacles—whether from within yourself or from elsewhere—will keep you alert to possibilities for solving problems before they arise.
